Role of Technology for Crime Prevention and Investigation

Abstract:

Technology is transforming police work in the 21st century by introducing new tools to fight crime and new categories of crime. With the rapid pace of technological developments, researchers are finding new and innovative ways to leverage these tools to enhance public safety.

From drones and body-worn cameras to facial recognition software, Machine Learning and artificial intelligence has led to the most critical technologies that equip law enforcement agencies with new capabilities to protect and serve.

In this Webinar titled ‘Role of Technology for Crime Prevention and Investigation’, Dr. Manesh B Kokare, Professor and Dean of Academics at Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Institute of Technology Vishnupuri, Nanded, will be looking at the role technology plays in matters related to crime prevention and investigation. Dr. Kokare’s research interests include Wavelets, Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Content-Based Image Retrieval.

Dr. Kokare has a Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur and was a BOYSCAST Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of California Santa Barbra, USA. He was honored with National Award- AICTE Visvesvaraya Best Teacher Award in 2020, University Best Teacher Award in 2013, and AICTE Career Award for Young Teacher in 2005.

Apart from discussing the role of technology, he will also be speaking on research challenges to provide efficient security services and prevent crime.
